A quick update about my last entry---I'm still a bit congested in the head area and still talk like a man, but I'm feeling better and have my energy back....Good thing, too, because my apartment was suffering from dirt syndrome (somewhere between the time we got married and the time Ben returned from Washington I'm pretty sure he forgot how to clean!)
After nearly 10 months of being married (about five of those actually spent together), we have friends! Married friends. Poor married friends. Fun, poor married friends. And the crazy thing is, they like us, too!!! It's really a funny story because I've known Tammy, the wife, for about two years. She, like me, has chosen to put herself through the greuling task of being an English major, also adding onto that the education part. She was a gem to me when Ben was called up and shipped overseas. In our American Literature class she would frequently ask about my "fiance" and smiled when I smiled about good news of a letter or other highlights of Ben's departure. We weren't really close and only conversed in class when there was time or when asked to discuss the themes in Arthur Miller's The Death of a Salesman. I had a few classes with her this summer and after hearing that we finally got married, she "hip hip and horrayed" with me. When Ben finally got home and we switched wards, I learned that Tammy and her husband, Toby, were also in our ward. We have ethics together this semester and sit next to each other. After a short time, Tammy invited us to their house for game night and ice cream.
I can't lie and say my husband was ecstatic about this invite because quite frankly he put up a bit of a fight, but we had a great time and got along great with a couple who is freakishly a lot like us. And as with most stories, the rest is history.
Last night they were here until 11:30 talking with us about the adjustments of marriage and all that comes with it, of which I won't go into detail about because I know my parents read this and I don't want them to really know what we talked about...hehehehehe....But I'll just say we had fun and I was still amazed that they agreed to hang out again tonight. We're going bowling and here afterwards for scones. I know, sounds like a total Mormon date, but it should be fun.
As we went to bed last night, I remarked to Ben that we better start our quest for new friends soon. Toby and Tammy are moving to Las Vegas for student teaching in December and I'm not sure we'll find another couple that can put up with us. Here's hoping; here's hoping.
