BandAids~The one Cure-All for OWIES

Hello, all.

Hope your 4th was fabulous! We had a great time yesterday...we went to the Sandy parade and down to uncle Ron and aunt Ellen's house for a BBQ and fireworks. I hate the letdown the day after a holiday: now back to reality!

I'm posting a few pictures (above) of our 4th Festivities.

Something I've been thinking about lately: BandAids.

I recently spent a few days tending 4 kids under the age of five (one two year old, a four year old, and two three-month old twins). The twins were (thankfully) sleeping soundly while I humored the two girls outside playing "tea-party." I was relishing in the fact that it was OK to hold a teeny-tiny empty plastic cup to my mouth and pretend munch on dirt covered rocks.

The tea-party ended just as soon as it begun and the girls moved to yet another activity.

Eventually, the four year old began screaming and shouting, "I'm hurt!" I ran over and saw nothing but a mere bug bite. She insisted that we needed to cover it with a bandaid immediately. As no blood was coming from the bite, I implied that there was no need for a bandaid; she still persisted.

Begrudingly, I took the two little girls in the house to get the much needed bandaid.

I took her arm and stuck one of the colorful bandaids on the invisible "owie," kissed it better, and threw the wrapping away. Just as we were ready to leave the bathroom, the two year old insists on getting a bandaid, even though she has no "boo-boo's."

I oblige and kiss her fake wound and take my two precious girls back out to play.

Magically, as soon as those bandaids went on, the pain of the wounds went entirely away. I laugh at this phenomenon. Put a bandaid on, either a real cut or fake, and it is suddenly painless.

I know this still works on adults, too, because yesterday I was impatiently digging away at a hang nail on my thumb, trying to rip the skin off. I succeeded, no blood, but still painful. I gave in to the urge to cover my thumb with the bandaid and, viola, the pain disappeared.

Tuly, I think it's a mind thing.

Pain+BandAid=Better.

Have a good day!
