good outcome

I made a journey over to the school this morning to try, again, talking to the principal about excusing me for Johnny and Laci's wedding next Wednesday. It's the same night as Back to School night. The outcome was better than expected.

I told him I'd try to be at the school by 7:30, just in time for students and parents to come to my room. He said that would be fine, but also understood that this wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime thing and that if I left a note, along with a handout for parents, I could be excused. He also mentioned another teacher had a similar situation and he excused her. All I have to do is make up the time on Friday. So, I can go to their wedding AND their reception. I'm very glad!

While I was at school, I made another journey down to my room to pick up a few things. I had received the new yearbook kit and was excited to get a few things out of that. I also grabbed my disclosure statements for both classes. I need to re-write them, according to some problems from last year. Over the summer they have re tiled the floors in the hallways; they look great! They've even cleaned and waxed my classroom floor and even though the tile is old, it looks almost brand new!

I ran into a few students...some I don't know...who were excited to see they got into my class. A few of my old 8th graders were whining that I don't teach 9th grade English. I tried to reassure them that the other 9th grade English teachers are great, too. The school is busy with registration and so I was glad to get out before things got too crazy.

You'll notice that I added a Slide show on my blog. I found this feature on another persons blog and thought it was great. It just took about 20 minutes and I can go back and add or change things...very cool.

I'm working on school stuff again today, but hopefully will watch some of Pres. Faust's funeral service. Also, still waiting to hear any good news about the miners, though I am getting sick of the media coverage.

Everyone have a great day!

That's great that the principal is working with you so you can go! That'd be a big bummer to miss the wedding! I'm still stunned that it's back to school time already! The summer just flew by! I hope your school year is fabulous! I believe those students were bummed you couldn't be their 9th grade teacher! "2 teach is 2 touch a life 4ever." Way to go, Lou! xoxo
