aging

I can't say that I've been entirely too busy to post this last week; I've just virtually had nothing to write about...and since I dedicated one whole post to cleaning my house with a toothbrush, which is what I ended up doing most all of last week, here's another bogus post about aging.

I just turned 26. It finally hit me in the car tonight when Ben was talking to his parents about insurance for a boat we just acquired. Said he, "It won't be bad because we're both over 25." And then I realized, crap, I'm 26 years old.

A few other age related experiences I've had this last little while:
-- I spoke at a baptism yesterday of one of my darling little primary girls. I spoke about baptism and while working on the talk, I calculated that it had been 18 years ago this month that I was baptized. 18! Crazy!
-- With time on my hand, I got thinking about the students that I student taught in 2005. Then, they were 8th graders. They will be seniors and graduating in 09. YIKES! Most of them are probably bigger and taller than me now and more mature (thank goodness!) than they were in 8th grade.
-- Ben was mistaken for some guys "ex-girlfriend's dad" while we were eating out on Friday. He saw Ben from across the room, approached embarrassed, and told Ben, "You look just like my ex-girlfriend's dad!" I told Ben after the kid left that it probably wasn't much of a compliment that he looked that old. Even this made me feel old that "young kids" (you know, the one's who just got off their missions, or just graduated high school) look at Ben (and maybe me) and think we're "OLD!"
-- Many and most of my friends/roommates have kids. Some have more than one. Some have families as big as the one I grew up in. To me, that's awesome and great, but all at the same time, kinda crazy as Ben and I are still a family of two. I am old enough to have children in kindergarten or starting in Primary. I look forward to when I do have children that old, but I suppose there's a few steps before that, i.e. actually having a baby!

I guess I'm trying to embrace my age, which in all consideration, isn't OLD. But I still feel like a high school student. (I may even still look like a high school student!). I don't feel closer to 30 than to 20, but in truth, I am.

One good thing is that I haven't had a gray hair yet...not that I'm vain or anything, but I have been looking for it, mostly because of my profession as a teacher!

And those are my thoughts about aging.
