new pet peeve

One of my biggest pet peeves is when the local stores and malls insist on putting up their Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving. In college, when my roommates went to Wal-Mart to buy Christmas decor, I put my foot down and as a mini protest bought several Thanksgiving themed decorations. I love Thanksgiving. It should get at least a few weeks' attention and decoration sales!

On the same token, I've just acquired a new pet peeve along the same lines. It's mid July. I'm enjoying my summer vacation from being a teacher and loving every millisecond of it! But, alas, I walk into an unnamed store recently and what do I see: BACK TO SCHOOL stuff. Arg.

Now, I realize that many kiddos and teachers are headed back to school in the next few days or weeks (elementary students will be starting a new year with the year-round school schedule). I myself have a few friends who start a new school year next week. With this thought it mind, I understand the need of new school supplies sales to be had at the store, but still I say,

LET A TEACHER (namely me) ENJOY SUMMER VACATION!!

I know soon enough I'll be purchasing some supplies for my own room, but to see the back to school stuff makes me ill. Seriously. It's like, I'm just getting used to being able sleep in past 6am, not worrying about what to do the next day in class, and being totally make-up free and all of a sudden they pull out the back to school signs on me--kind of crazy!

I'm so with you!! I HATE that there are ads everywhere for school supplies. I even told my dad the other day that I'm in denial that I work at a school and I don't even want to THINK about pencils and paper and all that jazz!
