Happy Sunday to my beloved readers. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I know I sure did.
First item up on the docket to discuss tonight is computer frustrations I've been having. As many of you know, I'm in the last two weeks of the semester, trying to finish two portfolios of papers and assignments. I remember blogging about my procrastination, but I assure you, these portfolios have not been put off, as other assignments have. I have, occasionally throughout the semester, been creating special files with information and 'stuff' to include in my portfolios. They have been, as I would say, an ongoing work in progress.
When we returned from our lovely Thanksgiving holiday (I love how folks in England call vacation "holiday," it's so proper), we turned on my computer only to find it was misbehaving (again). Ben did his best to repair the ancient computer but to no avail. Friday's night attempt at fixing the computer resulted in a "WARNING: HARD DRIVE FAILING>>>PLEASE BACK UP YOUR FILES OR RISK LOOSING THEM ENTIRELY" (or something like that). My first reaction to this was, "Oh, great! A semester's worth of important documents gone, all gone!"Finally, with tears in my eyes and an oncoming heart-attack at the thought of losing all of my portfolio work, I begged him to, please, take the failing computer to the local fix-it shop. He obliged and I tried to remain positive.
After my Friday night display of water-works, Ben could tell I was extremely anxious and frustrated at the ailing computer, so he calmly sat me down on our comfy black computer chair and quietly promised that the guys at the computer shop would fix my computer and that I would not loose any of my most needed files. (Along with those important school files, I have a plethora of our first-year-of-marriage photographs spending time on my hard-drive). He wiped my tears with his thumb, kissed me on the nose, and hugged me until the tears came no more. Saturday morning, my sweet husband woke up way before his usual Saturday morning time to take my ol' computer to El-Genes, promising me a fixed computer that night.
To make this long, and probably boring, tale shorter, let me just say that the computer fix-it guy (who I swear is older than Ben's 79 year old grandpa) did the best he could and fixed it temporarily so I could transfer necessary items from my old hard drive to Ben's laptop. I think after we have made those changes, I will have to part with my computer friend, whom I've enjoyed clicking away at for five years, who has helped me produce many wonderful literary analysis and fantastic lesson plans, and who has aided me in finding a new passion of blogging.
After all the frustration subsided, last night I visited a favorite website (www.homestarrunner.com) and located a hilarious cartoon depicting similar feelings I have about my virus (or other ailment) filled "Compy" and the fact that I am now working on my own type of "Lappy." Please, if you have time, visit this site, click on "STRONG BAD E-MAILS or SB e-mails" at the bottom of the screen and visit the second to the top entitled "virus." Think of me as you watch. After viewing this masterpiece, go back and watch the e-mail entitled "animal."
Happy homstarrunning! Love you all.
