poor doggy

We're doggy-sitting my brother's dog, Sierra. Eric got the opportunity to go to D.C. this week to meet with senators and congressmen concerning sportsman issues. He dropped her off on Sunday.

Last night, after taking the old decrepit dog on a walk (she more or less hobbled her way up and down the streets), I was recalling my childhood dream of having a dog. I wanted that companionship of a lovable mutt who I could play with, dress-up, and claim as "my baby."

Well, we finally got our little black lab, Sierra. She really was my brother's dog, but I had fun watching her grow up and into her floppy paws and ginormous ears.

Then she really grew up. I think she's about 9 years old and she sure looks it. A little bit chubby and smelly, too lazy (and literally unable) to hop up on the couch, and sometimes too tired to stand while eating her food.

Poor thing.

Here' s hoping she has at least a few years left.
