So wouldn't you know that I'm sick on my most favorite holiday ever?!?! True, it's happened before (I think I've been sick on Halloween at least 3 other times), but that doesn't make it any less disappointing. Ben and I were to go to a party tonight with our friends but had to cancel and will probably stay home, with the lights off, watching movies and eating junk food.
I've been dealing with a super sore throat, no voice, and ear ache pretty much all week. It's progressively gotten worse. I could barely speak to my students yesterday, and they laughed because I sounded kind of like a teenage boy going through puberty. Today, luckily, was a student non attendance day, so I was able to work in my room for a few hours without the distraction of students.
However, today, a new part of this sickness--whatever it is that I have--arrived. I started coughing phlem. Yuck. And because I pretty much can gag on cue these days (thanks, baby!) every time I cough I proceed to gag and then throw up. Whatever it is inside my throat and my gag reflex just do not mix. I coughed so hard my throat hurts worse and I'm pretty sure my whole desk at work AND the students desks, for that matter, should be quarantined.
I am wearing my orange "The Raven" Halloween t-shirt that I got last year. And my pumpkin socks my cute grandma sent me while I was in college. That's about the extent of my costume this year. I would totally wear the above hat, too, if I had it, because, well, the candy is an important part to why I love this holiday so much.
Yesterday I wore my "Just Gimme the Candy" Care-Bear shirt to school, which the kids laughed at. I also wore my black converse high tops. I heard such comments as, "I've never seen a teacher wear Chucks', Mrs. Hubert," and "You look like a teenager with those Chuck's on, Mrs. Hubert."
Just for fun (and because I'm majorly procrastinating my first big homework assignment in my new master's class--RESEARCH!) here's a link to the Halloween Picture Album on my Picassa.
Happy Halloween, all!
