panic

Ben and I usually take Sunday naps every Sunday. Since our church schedule didn't change for the new year & we still meet at 9, we have been continuing our napping tradition in 2009. We get home from church at about 12:30, eat lunch, and then lay down. Usually, I'm able to fall asleep quickly and sleep for at least one hour. Ben sleeps until I get too bored and wake him up.

Today I actually fell asleep on the couch after eating soup while Ben ate and watched TV. This is totally typical. When he woke me up to tell me to come take a nap with him in bed, I seriously felt like I had been asleep for at least one hour already. He said it'd only actually been about 15 minutes. We both got in our bed, snuggled, and--poof--he's asleep. It always takes me longer, but today I laid there for 20 minutes without falling asleep.

My mind was racing. I couldn't get comfortable (what's new, though, really), and the dog--who was also on the bed--was snoring and hiccuping at the same time. I got to thinking about a bunch of stuff, namely a certain baby who is going to be at our house in about 4 months and for whom we've only got a box of diapers, one onesie, a changing table, a teething ring, one blanket, one bib, and a teddy bear. And then I couldn't stop thinking about our lack of preparation for said baby. And I started to seriously have a full on panic attack. I could hear the blood pumping through my body. I got sweaty and clammy. I started coughing because I wasn't breathing right. And then I decided a nap just wasn't going to happen today.

So instead of taking my nap today, I'm going through the Baby's-R-Us registry checklist to find the best, most affordable baby products online. Since I'm a pretty simple person, I'd like to keep our baby purchases simple and not go overboard. I suppose I just got a huge whiff of what I've heard as being called the "nesting" hormone.

Let me just say, as long as you have diapers, wipes and blankets you will be fine. Everything else is really just fluff. Yes, it's nice to have clothes as well, but half the time baby is just going to be wrapped in a blanket or just in a diaper. (summer comes really fast with April babies.)

I still have a nice crib & dresser, and a freaking awesome swing, if you want them! Ben said you guys already have that stuff, but seriously.. this swing is totally cool lol. (check it out at http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=7977230 ) and if you have a boy, I have TONS of new baby clothes waiting for you. Liam grew out of 0-3 month clothes so fast that he only got a chance to wear half his stuff!

Try not to stress :) I know there are lots of people who would love to donate to the new Hubert baby.
