Happy St. Patrick's Day!!! Hope you're all wearing green. I know I am and I also know that Ben is not, so pinches for him when he comes home from work! HA! I think tonight we're going to drink green beer and dance the jig. Just kidding about the beer; totally serious about the jig.
So, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week I had the opportunity to sub for an English teacher at a junior high right down the street from our house. I love the junior high kids because they think I'm funny; the high school kids not so much. I was having a blast with these kids this week.
This teacher had four English classes and two journalism class (right up my alley, I know, I know). Each day, she has them do a writing prompt to get them thinking about what's up for the day.
On Wednesday, I had the time of my life reading what these kids said about the writing prompt: "What do you think you'll be doing in 10 years?"
You can only imagine my joy when I read the following answers (paraphrased, more or less, by Mrs. H):
"I will be married to my boyfriend Antonio ------- and we will proably have a few kids, living in California. I will clean houses 5 days a week during the day and be Tyra Banks' and Beyonce's hair and make up person."
"In ten years, I will be 25 and I will be mainly swimming every day in my Olympic size pool in my backyard. I will probably have a mansion, but that's only if I don't have to pay child support anymore."
"I really don't know, 25 sounds awfully old and I'm pretty sure all I'll ever do in life is manage a Wal*Mart and party until 4am every night. "
"When I turn 25, I will be a teacher during the day and then go and be a vet at night. I love kids and animals so I want to do both. Or maybe I'll just be a doctor."
"In ten years, I will definitely have a Porsch. And I might be working as a cosmotologist so I can buy everything I want and so my kids will have whatever they want."
You get the point. They are all true, though perhaps not in the same words as above.
Not that I'm one to bash on dreams, but clearly, these short snip-its require no explanation.
Let's just hope that life goes just as planned for these big dreamers!!
