I signed my very first teaching contract today. It was actually anti-climatic, except for the fact that the district has no record whatsoever of my application, which is very strange considering that is a necessity to be called for interview. But, as the woman told me there, it doesn't matter since I've been hired. HA.
So, I signed a few papers and they said congratulations and welcome to Granite School District and I shook a few hands. No pomp and circumstance as I had expected; no flowers and applause; no cheese cake and ice cream. It was a normal day for the folks at the district, something they do all year long. For me, though, it was the reward ending of a near six year process of becoming a teacher and a day to record in my sad, sad, paper-and-pen-journal.
I came home and had my own mini-celebration alone in my little apartment. I cleaned the kitchen (suprisingly enough, that to me is the perfect way to celebrate!), popped in De'Lovely soundtrack, lit some vanilla candles and downed one very choclatey piece of cheesecake. Yeah, I know, I'm a rebel partier.
Next on the new teaching job agenda: Getting my classroom key and planning for one very busy first year.
Happy Flag Day!!
